NEW! PRACTICAL LEADERSHIP SKILLS

PLS-WEBBRAND NEW! Research has shown that businesses require three types of leaders – Strategic, operational and team. To be successful, all three levels of leadership in a business need to be effective. Failure of leadership at any of these levels will seriously affect the business.

While the training of strategic leaders has been well catered for through the various business schools, this is not the case at operational and team levels where a national skills shortage has been identified.

As a result of research commissioned and feedback from clients and learners, B&A have developed a practical training and coaching intervention aimed at Team and Operational leaders (Paterson bands C and D).

The process involves two dedicated B&A facilitators:-

Consulting with client management at the start of the process to:-

  • Identify and agree on an appropriate skills set and benchmarks for measuring learners performance before and after training.
  • Curriculum changes with client management.

Advising on the selection of learners for training and obtaining the necessary commitment from the learners selected.

Facilitating a series of short courses aimed at enabling learners to:-

  • Revisit their assumptions and make the necessary internal changes for leadership.
  • Develop a personal plan to improve their leadership.
  • Develop the knowledge and practical skills to become effective leaders.

Assisting and coaching learners to complete workplace assignments designed to enable them to:-

  • Identify and address performance barriers affecting their teams.
  • Develop and negotiate appropriate team goals and standards with management and their teams.
  • Empower, train or coach team members to take on more responsibility.
  • Deal with conflict constructively and build good relationships and team spirit within their teams.
  • Monitor progress and ensure their teams attain agreed goals and comply with agreed standards.
  • Prepare a report and make a 5 minute presentation to top management on what they have learned and achieved as a result of their training.

Liaise with learners’ managers to ensure fair and accurate assessment before and after training and to ensure learners get the necessary support to complete assignments within deadlines.

The training has been aligned to unit standards where these are available and accreditation of the training as a skills programme with the Services Seta is pending.

An outline of the training courses and review workshops is as follows:-
